Google X

Google X is a secret research and development division founded in 2010 and being overseen by Sergey Brin. Reports suggest that there are hundreds of people working there on different project, such as Google Glass, Google Watch, Project Insight (Indoor maps), Waymo (self-driving cars) etc...

Project Insight

Project Insight was the first project released by Google X team, which added a way to include indoor maps of buildings in Google Maps.

Project Waymo

Project Waymo was the first project that caught a huge amount of attention both by the press and the public. The project started in 2009 to develop a technology that could make a car drive itself safely. In 2015 the team has completed the world’s first fully self-driving trip on public roads in a car without a steering wheel, pedals or test driver.

Project Glass

Project Glass is a research and development team within Google, developing augmented reality head mounted display. Project Glass is a part of Google X Lab, which has worked on other futuristic technologies such as a self-driving car.
In 2012 Google has announced “Project Glass” on Google +. Sergey Brin wore the prototype publicly as well as demoing it on The Gavin Newsom Show and let California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom wear the glasses. It was using the android software as the operating system to make it familiar and easy to use just like a phone.
The Time Magazine voted on the Google Glasses being one of the best inventions of 2012. However, in 2015 the production of the Google Glasses got cancelled due to failing to meet the expectations of the product as well there were privacy concerns with its use in public places.
